Description

We adore (in fact addicted to) finding really obscure / mostly unknown weirdness, (with a small but passionate cult DJ following) who delight in serving up "unknowns" with that creep-under-your-skin power, that takes an age to fade from your mind.

This slab of off-the-wall R&B/Popcorn cross-pollination ticks all those boxes, as this label's most active contributor, Billy's lyrics bordering on pure creepiness, as he ruminates over the crush he had on his teacher, and how he dreams of this "teacher" teaching some extra curriculum love-making. The song turns into a much nearer the knuckle of bad taste, as Billy, himself becomes a "teacher" and turns his attentions to the "college Queen" who in turn has "intentions" on him. The things "schoolboys" think about!

Would a record label, get away with that narrative today? We think not, but that eerie cocktail of swirling keyboard notes and harsh guitar-picking with Billy's southern twang, fitting snugly into this haunting, even narcotic Popcorn groove. Really does capture your attention...

INCREDIBLY RARE! Flawless condition born from a small city in Texas Odessa 300 miles west of Dallas almost to the New Mexico border, a music outpost with only a tiny African American population. This reminds me of that other inescapable "Popcorn" Texas style groove by George Peeples - Bonds Of Love - Make It MI-109 but this slab of weirdness being so much rarer, of course.

A 45 created in such an out of the way place, that few in Europe have heard or owned. But still it bubbles away in the consciousness of R&B/Popcorn scholarly DJs who have dug really deep over the years.

The flipside is a "lament" about a brave soldier in Vietnam reaching out to the "Lord" before his "last fight" ... of no interest to anyone but those who collect obscure Vietnam referencing 45s.
