Detroit collides with New York, resulting in two supreme Northern Soul dancers back to back.
Both sides composed by the prolific, highly accomplished Don Juan Mancha.
We lead with the awesome "She Said Goodbye" the former Wigan Casino cover-up "Steve Mancha- I Was Wrong" the song fortified by a muscular and utterly relentless "Bert Keyes" arrangement, persistent percussion, pumping horns, male-group vocal choruses and a perfectly timed pause and pickup as Billy reflects on his “fancy free” ambitions falling short.
With the final touches of class, knitted together by Luther Dixon. The three weave absolute Northern Soul magic, perfectly matched up with Billy expressive growling outpourings, as he reflects on his errors that lost him his girl. A familiar narrative for the rejected soul man, he would of course change his ways, but he can’t find her… you can now feel his palpable regret.
On the flipside Billy serves up the totally opposite emotions, with an uplifting joyous declaration of finding his “true love” at last. A soaring song cradled by aerial girl choruses, low blown rasping saxophone, triumphant brass driven hard and fast as Billy lifts his voice declaring his happiness.
Two proper, real-deal Northern Soul master-classes in mid-sixties dance. Awesome stuff, no matter which side you drop the arm on.

Two totally CLEAN labels (most of the few copies we have seen, suffer from h2o damage to varying degrees) both labels on this listing are MINT. Vinyl is likewise, full gloss revealing only the merest soft hairlines when angled in the light. A superb copy, indeed!A Side
