Description

It seems The Impalas vocal group version on Capitol, is receiving a tons of attention from lockdown DJ's and club outing pre-Covid. A record that Bunky Bill Shepherd really believed in, cutting two different versions in 1969 one by his prodigy group The Impalas, the other by The Esquires's leading lady Betty Moorer. Both tunes benefit from "Bunky's" studio prowess and Tom Tom Washington's exquisite arranging skills. Betty Moorer's being significantly rarer and also the superior take, her too supported by an uncredited vocal group cradlingn Betty's soaring vocal, an exquisitely expressive and steely Sister voice of real substance, pumped up and held aloft by a fluid insistent vocal group chorus..

Personally I much prefer this gritty girl version over the male vocal group take, both of course made the same year in Chicago, enjoying matching Bill Bunky Sheppard & Tom Tom Washington attentive expertise. maybe even recorded in the same session, you would expect the backing group for Betty to be The Esquires (who had a 45 on Wand the same year) or it could have been The (Chicago Impalas) who released at least 4 singles with Bunky Bill during the same period...

As we see the value of The Impalas on a steady upward curve, this much harder to find version has deserted the Northern Soul landscape, we thinking a little DJ one-up-manship will start to take place by those owning Betty and their associate DJs owning The Impalas.

Killer Northern Soul dancer, with the bonus of a meaty-Moorer version of the Isley Brothers funk hit "It's Your Thing" .

Two strong sides, perfect for a little turntable teasing as you upstage the previous DJ in the kindest possible way... flip a side you can also work if you want to win a Funk audience over.
