Very rare red stock copy - in immaculate condition.

Another New York songbird under the guidance of Bob Crewe and his dream team. Here with her debut 45, the original version of Laine Hill's "Ain't I Worth A Dime". A mid-paced Soulful floater of the highest quality; considered an "Island Soul" Grail with Herb Bernstein's calculated arrangement the perfect beseeching backdrop for Ms Banks to stroll through. Bernstein's genius of guiding celestial girl choruses through a maze of strings, horns, plucking notes of Harp, suddenly bombarded with a crashing kettle drum outburst; Bernstein then contrasting the crescendo with a swirling clarinet breeze, lifting this session into greatness. As an exasperated girl asks her boyfriend "Ain't I Worth" the cost of a phone call. .

A shade better than Laine Hill's second take on this great song a year later, Barbara's original is drenched in subtleties that bring you back for more than one listen, as this atmospheric stepper washes its charm all over you.

One of my all-time favourite Soul Girl moments created by a gifted New Yorker who never fails but to impress.

Condition is just as blinding as the song.
