Keb Darge gave Pittsburgh Soul crooner Archie Wigfall, two different identities when his 45 received its first hearing outside the USA.

Announced by Keb Darge at Stafford "Top Of The World" as Billy Hambric - I Need You Baby - cover-up. With DJ Mr. Darge confusing everybody present by first announcing it as "Jimmy Jackson" then deciding "Billy Hambric" was a better handle for this horn crammed dancer, cradling that mountainous vocal.

First discovered by Dave Raistrick on a Pittsburg digging trip; It was then a complete unknown to the Northern Soul scene. Secured by Keb, it did take Stafford by a storm in June 1985 and is still fondly remembered today as one of the defining sounds of that groundbreaking allnighter that changed the landscape of Northern Soul. Certainly no room for Gary Lewis, Tony Blackburn or Tim Tam & The Turn-Ons at this club as the DJ's excavated deep below the surface for meatier, gritty, imposing Northern Soul.

Al Haskins joins Archie Wigfall in this hard-blown fanfare of horns announcing Art's full throated growl, you can imagine the first reaction to this roaring attack on the senses, when Keb dropped it onto the learned and always receptive Stafford throng. Still talked about today, with more that a few collectors commenting this Stafford classic is ready and waiting for a long overdue revival.

But there is so much more to this 45 than the revival of a neglected stomper from the mid-eighties... Check out the exquisitely soulful ballad "I'll Be There" on the flip; with Archie sublimely showcasing his seamless vocal, rolled out on a warming blanket of brass and precise guitar plucks. Not exactly "Deep Soul" but more of a rare candidate for the soulful Lowrider or Island music DJ / collector. It's a beauty, that has slept in obscurity for too long. Listen and immerse yourself in this man's welcoming voice...
