The mid 60's the British music scene was awash with teenage Brit girls trying to make it big. All the companies trying desperately to launch the next Dusty Springfield, Lulu, Sandi Shaw, Helen Shapiro, the competition was hot, the market was full and a few exceptional young artists fell through the net.

The story of Marie Antoinette Daly aka "Antoinette" perfectly showcases this British 60's phenomena; as she released no fewer than 6 45's for the UK market. After her first failure for Decca, she moved to Pye who had more faith in her potential, but all her five 45s failed to register. This 45 is probably why, for me they promoted the wrong side, the a-side was "Our House" completely the wrong subject to sing about, with Johnnny Pearson doing the "big production", this time, oh so drably "Our House (of Prayer) " didn't stand a chance of sales to the UK teenage or MOD set culture. We have soundfiled it so you can also be aghast at Pye's promotion teams astonishing "Faux Pas".

Hidden away on the flipside was a fabulous John Schroeder & Barry Mason composition that not only depicts the mid-sixites era also captures the MOD feeling of 60s optimism in the form of a finger clicking dancer, featuring Johnny Pearson's piano expertise, as he peppers the production perfectly timed keyboard breaks. Strong strings, this time used correctly to build the production up. Which this young 14 year old Essex prodigy rises to and delivers big!

This is possibly her finest recording although I do like all her others, except "Our House". What was in the minds of this promotion team at Pye, to think a song about pray would launch this girls career. Hiding away the very essence of what 60's Brit-Girls was all about on a b-side nobody was going to hear.

A very rare 45, for a very good reason, the a-side is awful. The flip is a magnificent example of the "Ready Steady Girl Sound" of 1965.

This copy is in near perfect condition. It will attract interest from UK Soul & Northern Soul collectors as well as the huge armchair army of Brit-girl fanciers spread across the world. . Check out her other work, by 1966 her 45 career had crashed and burned, but her single on Columbia using her real name "Toni Daly" is another certainly worth diggin' deep for.
