Description

Rarest Of The Rare Motown Northern Soul in fine condition!

So representative of the Motown 1964 sound! With Motown's preeminent writing team Holland - Dozier - Holland guiding Jackie Hicks, Marlene Barrow & Louvain Demps on this Vandellas-esque Motown dance session, enriched by a muscular performance on baritone sax by Mike Terry and rhythmic drumming from Lamont Dozier, this session really has all the components of classic-style Motown.

The girl trio who really were the unacknowledged hummingbirds of the Motown Sound, rarely receiving a label credit and only releasing this solitary 45 which Motown never bothered to promote, as they already had Martha & The Vandellas delivering this style. V.I.P. 25006 seemed to be almost apology for their highly appreciated input as harmony backing singers.

As recently portrayed in the 2013 Hollywood movie "20 Feet From Stardom" the backing singers were often vocally-superior to the act. Receiving label credits on so few occasions although an integral part of 100's of Motown recordings... LaBrenda Ben - Gordy 7021, Holland - Dozier on Motown 1045, Mary Wells - Motown 1039 are the only cases that jump to my mind.. and sadly their excellent "That's A Funny Way" remained discarded in the vaults.. their value to the Motown Sound was seemingly their silky backing vocals that graced countless hits and not to be another diversion from Martha Reeves, The Supremes, The Marvelettes, Velvelettes sound..so the 3 never saw the the limelight and this solitary 45 V.I.P. 25006 45 seemly no more than a gesture...

Rather a sad decision, as this is a truly great Motown dance song of it's time, that could easily have become a hit; the B-side shows the Soulful side of Motown as the trio play-out a beautiful mid-tempo harmony ballad..

RAREST OF THE RARE
these fleeting opportunities to acquire a slice of Mythical-Motown occur so very seldom; Time to consider if you seriously want to complete the run, and achieve what hardly anyone ever has done; these validated "Holy Grails" need nailing the moment they fleetingly pause before you..your quest to achieve the near impossible could be one step closer.
