Who

The Last Time / Under My Thumb

The Who” do “The Stones!”

Apparently whilst the two writers were in Jail on drugs charges, the Who thought it would a great way to bring attention to the Jagger & Richard’s plight and as act of “Rock Comradery” The Who cover two decidedly great Stones numbers - with Polydor promoting this 45, as a fashionable “Double A side”

Two Britain’s most iconic Rock Bands both with R&B / Soul inclinations, the unintended collaboration worked so well. But this 45 carries quite a few aspects to making ownership for the thinking collector, imperitive.

And we are not just talking about the truly stand-out condition, or indeed the original wavy-top Polydor smooth finish sleeve…

Led Zeppelin completists also recognise the desirability of this disc, underlined by Samuel Ketenjian’s guide to Jimmy Page’s attributed sessions, but uncredited on the label releases. Track 604006 apparently features within it’s pages.

Personally I think this 45 that failed to break into the 1967 UK Top 40 is a strong release and rarely encountered in exception condition, or the die-cut 3 prong variation.

Nice item and really needs securing as the “Jimmy Page” debate rages on to reach a positive conclusion….

Lloyd Barnes / Buster's All Stars

Time Is Hard / Reincarnation

Former “Secret Sound” artist credits scored over - (see scan) but the deceiving scalpel of the secretive DJ cannot hide what’s in the grooves. A relentlessly uplifting trumpet driven SKA dancers is about to take flight!

Flip it over, and you are met with a deceptive intro as Buster’s All Stars trick you into thinking the flip is gonna be a “nothing” “boring” instrumental. Then just as you reach for the arm, to eject the needle.. this recording bursts in life..the “Pub-Pianist” is brushed aside on a wave of horns and sax.. musicianship of the highest standard fills the space as dueling Trumpets challenge the Sax as both push the envelope of “Goodtime-Jammin’”

THIS IS GREAT SKA!! on both sides - little wonder that 60s DJ didn’t want to let anyone else into this “secret” - thankful he too loved this record so much, the vinyl surface have been treasured, allowing today’s DJ to wow the “throng” with a crackle free SKA experience of the most inspiring kind!

Graham Bond Organization

Long Legged Baby / Long Tall Shorty

Rockin’ Brit R&B from one of the MOD scene’s most influential club bands of the 60s.

Take a trip back to 1964 and taste the British developing passion for Soul & R&B check out the insane instrumentation, from the very first note, the swirling Hammond in frantically fingered to death. A poised Dick Heckstall- Smith saxophone waiting to attack the session, with what seems to be a release for pent up anticipation of the day. Full-on Sax emotion floods the session, blowing with such intensity it drowns everything else around. Then of course there’s the animalistic barks, snarls and growls of the saturated in Soul Graham Bond session-worn vocal liberally raining down the lyrics… WOW some tune!

Flip it over and Bond’s-Boys go transatlantic for their choice of house-shaker, to New York ripping to shreds the Don Covay and Herb Abramson debut single for Tommy Tucker. Just released on Yellow Pye in the UK and quickly given the “Bond” no-boundaries treatment.

Two sides that encapsulate the MOD mood of the day, as Soul/R&B started to dominate the Club Scene.
